Peak Reduction Certificates (PRCs) must be registered within 6 months of the end of the compliance period in which the capacity from an activity is made available (30 September). This means PRCs created from the capacity generated from an activity between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024 must be registered by 30 September 2024. You will not be able to register PRCs for that capacity after this deadline.

This page provides information on how:

  • the deadline is set
  • to manage the deadline
  • the deadline works for forward creation of certificates.

How the deadline to register certificates is set

The deadline to register certificates is set out in clause 106(5) of Schedule 4A to the Electricity Supply Act 1995. We have no discretion to extend the registration period and you must manage PRC registration to ensure that you meet this deadline.

How to manage the deadline

To meet the deadline, you should:

  • Review your peak demand reduction activities within the period 1 April – 31 March to make sure that you have registered all eligible certificates.
  • Review your audit requirements and certificate registration limits and consider whether you may need to:
    • arrange a pre-registration audit
    • request changes to your condition of accreditation to increase your volumetric limit if applicable.
  • Review the other conditions in your Accreditation Notice and the requirements of the calculation method.

Early action will provide sufficient time to complete audits or changes to accreditations and allow time for unexpected delays.

How the deadline works with forward creation

Certificates from an implementation that generates capacity in the future can be forward created and registered up front. But, because the capacity from certificates becomes available in the vintage year, certificates with future vintages may be registered at any time up to the 30 September of their vintage year.

For example, a future vintage certificate that represents capacity for the period 1 November 2025 to 31 March 2026 has a 2026 vintage. This certificate must be registered no later than 30 September 2026.
