If you’re entering the Annual Operating Hours (AOH) for New Areas where the Space Type is either “Un-Switched Maintained Emergency Luminaire” or “Switched Maintained Emergency Luminaire with a Control System” please follow the steps below to ensure that the correct value for AOH is entered into the tool:

  1. On the “New Area” window, click on “Annual Operating Hours” to open the “Asset Lifetime” window.
  2. On the “Asset Lifetime” window, after selecting one of the radio button options for either Replacement or Installation, on the dropdown for “Space Type”, select either “Un-switched Maintained Emergency Luminaire” or “Switched Maintained Emergency Luminaire with a Control System” (whichever is applicable). Note: do NOT select the BCA class option here as this will cause the AOH to default to an incorrect value. The “BCA Building Classification” window should now open.
  3. On the “BCA Building Classification” window, select the appropriate Class then click “Submit”. This should take you back to the “Asset Lifetime” window. The “Annual Operating Hours” should display as “8500 Hrs/Year”.
  4. Click “Submit” on the “Asset Lifetime” window. This should take you back to the “New Area” window, where the “Annual Operating Hours” is displayed as “8500 Hrs/Year”.

Please note that if in any of the steps above, you click on “Cancel” instead of “Submit” on any of the windows, it may cause the AOH to default back to 6000 hours. You would need to perform all of the above steps again to get the correct AOH value of 8500 hours.
